Staithes Beach

Night time on the Yorkshire Coast. The lights from the Cod and Lobster shine over the Staithes Harbour in this historic fishing port. Staithes was once the sixth biggest fishing port in England; and it was from here that Captain Cook got his taste for the sea. In more recent times fishing has declined and the main income is now from tourism. Staithes boasts many beautiful sandstone cottage holiday homes. There are many traditional pubs like The Cod And Lobster, and Royal George to name a few; to cater the people who flock to the village. Visitors love to explore every nook and cranny and marvel at the fantastic idilic cottages set among the hillside. A small foot bridge; part of the Cleveland Way Trail crosses Roxby Beck to Cowbar. On the side you will fine 4 Cowbar Bank; the house made famous by the TV show Old Jacks Boat and the RNLI lifeboat Station. Staithes also hosts an annual Lifeboat Weekend and heritage festival.
