Runswick Bay

Hidden away on the Yorkshire coast between Saltburn and Whitby is the pretty fishing village of Runswick Bay. A favourite seaside destination with its long golden beach running towards Kettleness to the south. The sandstone houses with the red roofs are symbolic of the area, and the village is very simular to its neighbours Robin Hoods Bay and Staithes. And like these places Runswick Bay is a historical fishing village with only a small fleet left. Some of which are here, the cobbles removed from the water to the safety of the boat park over looking the bay. The Yorkshire Coast still retains much Scandinavian influence brought by the Norsemen over 1000 years ago in the names given to places, Wick is very common on the East Coast of England, and it derives from the old norse meaning stream.
