Robin Hoods Bay Summer Sunrise

A summer sunrise on the Yorkshire Coast from the Cleveland Way, above the old smugglers village of Robin Hoods Bay a few miles down the coast from the ancient port of Whitby. Robin Hoods Bay is very similar to Staithes and Runswick Bay with its Houses clustered together in the hillside. And like the sandstone cottages and cobbled roads the are striking resemblances in these traditional fishing villages. The village of Robin Hoods Bay is surrounded by moor and marsh land; and the secluded beach made this a perfect drop off point for contraband been smuggled in the 18th century. It is believed that the cottages are link with tunnels and local and bolt holes to help evade the dreaded excise men.
