Odin’s Hill Roseberry Topping

A fantastic sunset scene from the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. Roseberry Topping dominates the surrounding area, which like many other parts of Northern England was once inhabited by the Vikings, and it was the Scandinavian invaders who gave the hill its name. Roseberry Topping derives from  Othenesberg which is Norse meaning Hill of Odin, the R arouse representing Newton Under Roseberry and Toppinn meaning hill. And this stunning landmark must have been held in high regards by the Norsemen because despite taking over much of England this is the only place in Britain to be openly named after Odin.
