Danby Beacon

An imposing symbol stands proud over the North Yorkshire Moors. For 400 years a beacon has stood at this location, once a soldier was station here, watching day and night to watch for the French fleet. The beacons where sited 20 miles apart and it was the duty of the solders manning them to light the fire it the armada was spotted.

The Danby Beacon was sited here for its vantage point, visible for miles around the views from Beacon Hill are stunning , looking down into the Esk Valley and up Danby Dale and Fryup Dale. Looking to the North, across the fields and moor the Heritage Coast can be seen.
