Ayton Woods Sunset

A beautiful Yorkshire landscape which I stumbled across by accident on the edge of Easby Moor. I was taken aback by the contrasting colours from the purple heather in full bloom, to the dark and light greens of the trees and bracken, and finally the warm colours of the evening sky which made it look almost magical. It reminded me of the work by Thomas Kinkade, a real life scene that could quite easily be one of his paintings. This location is not far from Aireyholm Farm; boyhood home of Captain James Cook. It was while staying at the farm in Great Ayton that he is said to have developed a passion for adventure; exploring this local landscape and making regular trips to the nearby Roseberry Topping.
