Wain Wath Force

A beautiful autumn waterfall on the River Swale, situated a mile from the village of Keld. Looked upon by the Cotterby Scar the waterfall is also passed by Alfred Wainwrights Coast To Coast Walk. The long distance foot path runs for 192 miles; starting at St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire. Everywhere in the North of England there is reminders of our Scandinavian heritage; this waterfall is called a force which derives from the Norse word Foss meaning waterfall.
Further down the river is the picturesque East Gill and the Mighty Kisdon Force.
