Roseberry Topping Quarry
A lovely summer evening in 2016, i made my annual trip to Cockshaw Hill Quarry to catch the heather in bloom. This has to be one of the best views in Yorkshire, looking from the edge of the North York Moors on to Roseberry Topping and out over the Tees Valley. Roseberry Topping dominates the surroundings and can be seen from all over the moors and beyond the River Tees, so impressive the Vikings who settled here named it Odin’s Hill. Another famous resident who lived in the shadow of Roseberry Topping Was the great British explorer Captain James Cook, Who lived for a time with his parents at Aireyholm Farm.
