Roseberry Topping Winter Dawn
Dawn on the Ayton Moor, a coating of snow covers the fields around Aireholm Farm and the Cleveland plains. Standing out against a purple morning sky is the Yorkshire Matterhorn, a much loved local landmark. Roseberry Topping owes its remarkable appearance to the sandstone cap on its summit protecting the layers of shale underneath, and a collapse in 1912 probably due to the alum and iron stone mining around this ancient fell gave it the look it has today. The view from here a short way of the Cleveland way trail in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is one probably one of the most splendid views Yorkshire has to offer.
