Sutton Bank, Spring Sunset
Sutton Bank on the edge of the Hambleton Hills. One of the most adored landscape pictures of Yorkshire. Seen here at sunset from the Cleveland Way. Author James Herriot described this as the best view in England, I think there is no doubt that it is one of the best, with views over Lake Gormire, the Vale Of Mowbray and the Vale Of York. Not surprisingly the area is now used for gliding by the Yorkshire Gliding Club and the tracks around the hills are a mecca for cyclists. In more recent times the area has been designated ‘Dark Skys’ status ‘Milky Way Class’ as the low light polution and clear horizon make it ideal for star gazing.
