Whitby Harbour Summer Sunset
A glorious summer sunset from the seaside town of Whitby on the North Yorkshire Coast. This was taken from the bottom of the 199 Steps close to Henrietta Street looking across the mouth of the River Esk towards whitby’s twin piers. Over looking Whitby harbour is the Bay Royal Hotel, one of many hotels, B&Bs and holiday cottages to be found in Whitby supporting the tourism industry which has been established here since the Georgian period and increased in popularity further by the introduction of the railways in 1839. Whitby remains a an ever growing tourist destination today not just for the seaside towns charm history and gothic connection, but for the North Yorkshire Moors National Park which borders the town and the Heritage Coastline on which Whitby was founded.
