Transporter Bridge Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough’s Transporter Bridge the last bridge over the River Tees. Known locally as the Tranny it crosses from Middlesbrough on the south bank to Port Clarence. The unusual design of the bridge was to ensure that it did not interfere with navigation up the industrial Tees. Over the years the Transporter has withstood gale force winds and second world war bombs. In 1985 it became a Grade II Listed Building and also in 1993 received the Heritage plaque. The Transporter Bridge has appeared on tv many times over the years. Most notably when our neighbours up the road took great joy in taking our bridge down and sending it of to America. Despite the Geordie’s best efforts, getting rid of our local landmark remains a pipe dream for them, and the bridge still stands proud over the River Tees.
